Cyberlaw: Privacy, Ethics, and Digitial Rights (Online, Summers)

The course will explore specific problems in applying real world law to cyberspace in areas such as intellectual property, privacy, content control, and international jurisdiction.  The class also reviews the legal and ethical issues associated with information security including access, use, and dissemination. We will emphasize legal infrastructure relating to information assurance and emerging technologies for management of digital rights. We further examine the role of information security in various domains such as health care, scientific research, and personal communications. The class will also examine criminal activities on the internet including hacking and unauthorized access; computer use in traditional crimes; identity theft and online fraud; electronic interception, search and seizure, and surveillance.
